About Austurborg

Austurborg is open from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Austurborg Preschool opened on July 1, 1974 at Háaleitisbraut. The preschool has a great outdoor area for games and playtime with outdoor toys like bikes and sleds. The preschool is centrally located, close to the city's main transport arteries, making it easy to travel around the city with the children. The preschool has four groups with space for 94 children, ranging from 18 months to 6 years old. There are 30 employees. The younger children go to Putaland (Lilliput Land) and Bangsaland (Teddy Bear Land), and the older children go to Ólatagarður (Racket Room) and Kattholt (Kitty Hillock).

Preschool Director: Hrafnhildur Konný Hákonardóttir.

The preschool operates in accordance with the Reggio Emilia philosophy, where creative work is emphasized and the Play to Learn teaching method is used. All academic subjects are taught to children between the ages of 2 and 10 through organized and engaging games, activities, and hands-on experiences. A focus is placed on learning through discovery, utilizing creative endeavors such as music, art, theatrical performance, and imaginative thinking.

Parent cooperation

We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in preschool activities. All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.

The Center for Austurborg

Austurborg Preschool falls under North Center. North Center provides a wide range of services to the residents of Laugardalur and Háaleiti and is a comprehensive information source for municipal services. Child prosperity

The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a contact person in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The contact person offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can contact the school contact person to request integrated services.

The contact person for Austurborg is: Bylgja Rós Rúnarsdóttir
