Mayor's Neighborhood Days in Grafarvogur
Mayor Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir will visit Grafarvogur Nov. 24-28, 2025.
During Neighborhood Days, the mayor will visit public schools and other city facilities, meet with local city staff, talk with residents and representatives from community organizations, sports clubs and parent associations, and host open events where people can discuss issues with her and senior city officials.
Neighborhood profile
More than 18,000 people live in Grafarvogur, and the neighborhood takes its name from the farm Gröf, now abandoned but once located by Grafarlækur creek, south of Keldur.
The neighborhood is known for its beautiful natural surroundings, including Grafarvogur bay itself, which features diverse bird life and the salmon fishing river Korpa. The neighborhood also features a beautiful coastline, which residents use for outdoor recreation and sports.
The neighborhood has a wide range of school, recreation and community activities, and the youth association Fjölnir offers diverse sports programs. Egilshöll also has excellent sports facilities, plus a bowling alley and movie theater. Gufunes is home to one of Europe's largest film studios. Gufunesbær has an excellent outdoor recreation area for the whole family, as well as Grafarvogslaug swimming pool in the heart of the neighborhood.
Schedule for the mayor's visit
During Neighborhood Days, Mayor Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir will visit schools in the area. She will meet with representatives from the schools' parent associations and speak with school administrators and other staff members. She will also learn about other City activities in the neighborhood and meet with community organizations and sports club representatives.
