Primary school meals
School meals are free for the 2024-2025 school year. However, the school still needs to track information about allergies and intolerances and limit food waste. Students must register for the school lunch program as before.
Parents/guardians register for the school lunch program in the Skólamatur system and select which weekdays their children will eat. Students should choose the same weekdays each week, such as every Tuesday and/or every Thursday. More information is on the Skólamatur website.
About Foldaskóli
Foldaskóli began operating in the fall of 1985 and it's the oldest primary school in Grafarvogur. The school's location offers many opportunities, as it's situated near the bay which is rich in diverse nature and bustling bird life.
The school is a comprehensive primary school with around 500 students and about 80 employees. Most of the students come from Foldahverfi, Hamrahverfi, and Húsahverfi, and the school is a consolidated school for lower secondary education in these neighborhoods. The school operates a special division, Foldaver, for children with autism. The school's motto is decency, education, and peace of mind, and with these, we want to emphasize respect, care, and positive interactions, good comprehensive education, and well-being.
The school employs professional and vigorous staff who aim to activate and strengthen students both academically and socially. Emphasis is put on meeting the needs of students with individualized learning and diverse teaching methods. At the younger levels, integration of subjects is pursued and all students receive instruction in dance besides the traditional arts and vocational subjects. A variety of courses are offered for lower secondary education where students can choose from many subjects with an emphasis on creativity, literacy, social skills, and physical activity. Foldaskóli is environmentally conscious and has been a Green Flag school since 2006 and a health-promoting school since 2010.
There's successful cooperation with the after-school program Regnbogaland and the youth center Fjörgyn, both of which are based in the school. There is also good collaboration with the Grafarvogur School Band and the local music schools as some of the instrument lessons take place in the school during school hours. Great emphasis is put on robust cooperation between parents/guardians, students, and staff, aiming for the students' best interests.

Child prosperity
The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity contact in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity contact offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can reach the school prosperity contact to request integrated services.
