Guidelines for capital area residents due to bird flu outbreak
Animal Services staff have been working hard due to a bird flu outbreak affecting birds, especially geese, and want to convey a message to city residents. Reykjavík Animal Services will handle services for this throughout the capital area in cooperation with the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority.
Twelfth Night bonfires in Reykjavík 2025
Reykjavík will host two bonfires on Twelfth Night, Monday, January 6, 2025. One at Ægisíða and another at Gufunesbær in Grafarvogur.
CityLine informational meeting
An informational meeting about the first phase of CityLine, which runs between Ártúnshöfði and Hamraborg, will be held on Thursday, January 9 at 5pm in the Tjarnarsalur of Reykjavík City Hall. The meeting will present the environmental impact report for this first phase and introduce proposals for the framework section of the municipal plan. Everyone is welcome.
Winter services today
Winter services have progressed well so far today. Reykjavík had heavy snowfall from 5am last night, causing significant road conditions, especially in the eastern part of the city. Crews were called out for both streets and paths as is standard in these conditions. Clearing of residential streets began this morning and is progressing well.
New Year's in Reykjavík
Air quality may be poor in the first hours of 2025 due to fireworks. Suspended particulates may exceed health limits. Suspended particulates from fireworks are dangerous and harmful to health. Fireworks also create litter that needs proper disposal. Reykjavík City will provide containers for firework debris at ten recycling drop-offs across the city.
