Violence can be:

  • Physical violence. For example, punching, hitting, and kicking.
  • Psychological violence. For example, threatening, scolding, threatening, humiliating, and controlling.

The shelter is for women and their children when they cannot stay at home due to their husbands, or others living at the home, emotional or physical violence.

The shelter is also for women who have been raped.

Telephone counseling 24 hours a day at 561-1205.

Women can call and talk. They can get support and information.

Interviews are available for women to come and get support and information without staying the night.

It is necessary to call 561-1205 first and make an appointment.

There are groups where women meet to help each other. They get help from the women's shelter staff member.

Bjarkar-hlíð is a center for survivors of abuse. The goal of Bjarkar-hlíð is to provide support and consultation as well as education about violence and its consequences.

An appointment is required. Opening hours are 9-17 on weekdays

Reykjavík City Community Center
