The role of resident councils is to strengthen connectivity and shorten the channels of communication between residents and the city administration, to promote greater disclosure of information to residents, to strengthen residents’ ability to present feedback, and to raise awareness of challenges within the districts.

The decision on the allocation of funds from the Reykjavík City District Fund is taken by the Reykjavík City resident councils.
