Sports and outdoor activities

Come out to play! Physical activity and outdoor recreation support good physical and mental health. Reykjavík has many outdoor areas with a variety of fun activities. The Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo has something for everyone and, of course, you have the swimming pools that are open all year round.

The ski areas

Within the city limits of Reykjavík, there are three ski lifts intended for children and beginners in Ártúnsbrekka, Breiðholt, and Grafarvogur. The lifts are open when conditions allow. Larger ski areas are located at Bláfjöll and Skálafell.

Swimming pools

There are few things better for mental, physical, and social health than the outdoors and exercise—and soaking in the hot tub is beyond compare!

Swimming is free in Reykjavík for all people ages 67 and over.

Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach

The geothermal beach at Nauthólsvík, which opened in 2000, has truly become a paradise in the urban landscape, attracting both local and foreign visitors. At Nauthólsvík, there is a service center with changing and shower facilities for bathers, as well as concessions and a barbecue area.

Sea swimming

Sea swimming is gaining popularity and is considered particularly beneficial for sea swimming enthusiasts to use the facilities at the Geothermal Beach all year round. The staff of the Geothermal Beach do their utmost to give good advice to sea swimmers, although it should be noted that experienced sea swimmers are best at providing tips.

Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo

An animal and amusement park in Laugardalur. The Park offers classes about animals for children and youth. The amusement rides are only open in the summer, but you can see the animals being fed all year round, and sometimes you can even enjoy a horseback ride. The Park is open every day.

Hitt Húsið Youth Center

Hitt Húsið is a center for young people. If you are between the ages of 16-25, you can use the facility to sing, dance, dream, create, learn, play, meet, and almost anything else you can think of!

Come introduce your idea, or just drop by for coffee and see what's happening.
