The LGBT+ Youth Center is a joint project of Reykjavík City and Samtökin '78, operated by Tjörnin Recreation Center. The target group is children and adolescents in grades 8-10 across Reykjavík. We also offer sessions for grades 5-7 on Tuesdays from 5-6:30pm. The LGBT+ Youth Center collaborates closely with other youth centers of Tjörnin and throughout the city.

The center aims to provide LGBT+ children and adolescents a safe space to be themselves, meet other LGBT+ youth, strengthen their self-image, and belong to the LGBT+ community. Participants don't need to be LGBT+ to attend, and all are welcome. The center offers diverse activities appealing to children and adolescents with different interests, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment.

Weekly schedules and additional information are available on the LGBT+ youth center's Facebook page

Practical information

Child prosperity

The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity liaison in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity liaison offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can reach the school prosperity liaison to request integrated services.

Information about prosperity contacts for children at the LGBT+ Youth Center is available on their primary schools' websites.
