Reykjavík City Human Rights Award 2026 — Nominations sought
Individuals, groups, associations, or institutions that have notably promoted human rights can be nominated. Have a nomination in mind?
The purpose of the Human Rights Awards is to highlight Reykjavík City's Human Rights Policy and the importance of a society that respects human rights. Reykjavík City observes Human Rights Day each year on May 16. The award will be presented at a formal ceremony on May 11.
Individuals, groups, associations, or institutions that have notably promoted human rights can be nominated.
The 2025 Human Rights Award went to Afstaða, an organization dedicated to prison reform and rehabilitation, in recognition of its invaluable work on behalf of incarcerated people and their immediate family. The recipient of the Reykjavík City Human Rights Prize is awarded ISK 600,000.-
Who should receive the Reykjavík City Human Rights Award 2026?

The deadline for nominations is April 24, 2026.
The selection committee is appointed on a one-year basis and is made up of three individuals with professional backgrounds in equality and human rights.
