Grants for education and equipment purchases

Disabled individuals with long-term support needs may be eligible for grants to cover the cost of education and equipment such as computers. The grants aim to increase disabled people's participation in social life and employment by facilitating access to education, skills, and experience.

Can I apply for a grant?

To be eligible for these grants, you must:

  • Have a permanent address in Reykjavík.
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • To be recognized as disabled in accordance with the Act on Services for Disabled People with Long-Term Support Needs, No 38/2018

What documents do I need to provide?

Supporting documents for the education grant application

  • Receipts for educational fees or expenses for educational products.

Supporting documents for the equipment purchases grant application

  • Receipts for the purchase of equipment.

What happens next?

Applications are processed once a year in September. If your application is approved, the grant will be deposited into the bank account you provided on your application. An approved grant can offer applicants up to 60,000 kr. per year per grant.

If your application is denied, and you believe there are exceptional circumstances, you can request a review by the Welfare Council Appeal Board.
