About Heiða

Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir was born in Akureyri on February 21, 1971 and was raised there. Except 5 years living in Sweden, she has lived all her adult years in Reykjavík. She is the daughter of Hilmir Helgason, heavy equipment engineer, and Lovísa Snorradóttir, domestic service worker. Heida Björg is married to Hrannar Björn Arnarson and they have 4 children, Særós Mist born in 1991, Hilmir Jökull born in 1998, Sólkatla Þöll born in 2006, and Ísold Embla Ögn born in 2008.

Career

Heiða Björg serves as the chair of the Icelandic Association of Local Authorities, former deputy chair of the Social Democratic Alliance, and chair of the party's women's movement. Before taking her seat on City Council, Heiða Björg served as Director of Kitchen and Dining at Landspítali — The National University Hospital of Iceland. She has been active in social activities, including chairing the Icelandic Food and Nutrition Society, chairing the Norwegian MS Association, vice-chairing the MS Association, and on the Representative Council of the European Nutrition Advisory Association. She has covered a wide range of food and nutrition in the media, taught at the University of Iceland, published the cookbook “Samlokur” or Sandwiches with Bryndís Eva Birgisdóttir, and written recipes for the book “Af bestu lyst 4” or Most Appetizing 4. Over the years, Heida has worked many different jobs, including consulting, shop assistance, catering, and cleaning, and worked in lambing, haymaking, and milking.
