Representative Council of the Association of Municipalities in the Capital Area
The approval for the Association of Municipalities in the Capital Area was agreed upon at their annual general meeting on November 4, 2011.
The objective of the Association is to work on common interests of the municipalities, enhance their cooperation, and promote increased communication and collaboration among municipal officials, committees, and staff in the capital area.
The SSH board is composed of the executive directors of Garðabær, Hafnarfjörður, Kjósarhreppur, Kópavogur, Mosfellsbær, Reykjavík, and Seltjarnarnes. Each municipal council nominates an alternate from among its elected municipal council members. The chair is elected specifically for two-year terms, with member municipalities alternating in the chairmanship.
The bylaws of SSH state that a special representative council should be formed at the first annual general meeting following municipal elections, based on nominations from member municipalities. The number of representatives depends on the size of the municipality. Only primary members of the municipal council are eligible to serve on the representative council.
