Nursing homes are designed for those who can't live independently. Residential and nursing homes provide 24-hour service and elder care. They also offer medical and occupational therapy, pedicuring service, hairdressing, physical exercise, bathing, and various hobby activities.
Application/service process
Apply or get more information at the Primary Care of the Capital Area at Álfabakki 16, 109 Reykjavík, phone 513 5000. Information is collected about the applicant's capabilities and situation. Information is obtained about physical and mental health, and social conditions including family situation and what kind of help the applicant is currently receiving. We assess how the applicant manages daily activities such as personal care and household chores. A competence and health assessment must be available when applying for an opening in a nursing home. The competence and health assessment is a professional evaluation of the applicant's needs for a permanent stay in a nursing ward, as defined by the Act on the Affairs of the Elderly and the Act on Health Service. You only need to submit an application signed by the applicant. When the competence and health assessment is ready, the applicant is answered in writing. If the competence and health assessment is approved, the results will be used prioritize placement on the waitlist for the nursing home.
