Subsidy for children staying with day parents

The day parent placement fee subsidy depends on the guardian's marital and educational status. The subsidy is paid directly to day parents. This means the bill from the day parent already includes the subsidy. Guardians pay the remaining amount.

Category 1 - Married parents, cohabiting partners, one parent in school.

Category 2 – Applicants for discount including; single parents, both parents in school, one or both parents with disabilities or on rehabilitation pension from the Social Insurance Administration, and Reykjavík preschool staff.

Application for an increased day parent subsidy

Please note that applications for an increased day parent subsidy cannot be submitted online. Instead:

Single parents must apply using a paper form available from the day parent, who then forwards the completed application to the day-care advisor.

If both parents are students, they must send school certificates showing the number of registered credits per semester (minimum 22 ECTS) for each parent to the day-care advisor daggaesla.umsjon@reykjavik.is or the billing department innheimta.sfs@reykjavik.is

Disabled people must send their disability certificate or a Social Insurance Administration (TR) confirmation of a rehabilitation pension period to the day-care advisor daggaesla.umsjon@reykjavik.is or the billing department innheimta.sfs@reykjavik.is

Reykjavík preschool employees must complete an application form with their supervisor, the preschool director at their workplace. The supervisor then forwards the application for processing.

Higher subsidies for 18 months and older

Reykjavík City increases subsidies to day parents and guardian payments to day parents go down when a child turns 18 months old. Guardians should then pay the same fee as for a child in a Reykjavík City preschool. Day parent fees may be higher if they provide extra services not included in the day care fee, such as diapers and special diets.
