Building history

Construction of the indoor pool in Breiðholtslaug Pool began in 1976. The pool was originally built as a teaching pool for the schools in Breiðholt. For the first two years, only the indoor pool was in operation. The main pool opened in 1981. The residents of Breiðholt had limited access to the pool for the first few years, and it was initially called the Polytechnic Swimming Pool.
