Hi! The English site is only a beta for now and still has many errors (especially in names and locations).
We are working hard to fix them and making more content available than ever before so expect constant updates.
Vinagerði Preschool opened in September 2006. It is located in an old neighborhood in the center of Reykjavík and the surrounding area offers beautiful and child-friendly walking trails and playgrounds. There are 60 children in Vinagerði, divided into three groups. The building has two floors, with the younger groups, Tröllagerði and Álfagerði, located on the lower floor. The oldest group, Drekagerði, is on the upper floor. Vinagerði has 20 employees.

Want to know more about Vinagerði? In this very short video, we give a glimpse of the preschool activities. It was made by Erla Stefánsdóttir and Antonía Lárusdóttir for the Department of Education & Youth.
The values of Vinagerði are joy, encouragement, and tact
Vinagerði follows the Reggio Emilia educational approach, where we view children as competent, capable, and creative, as well as vulnerable. The preschool places a strong emphasis on creative work and free play, with the goal of creating an environment that stimulates curiosity and well-being.
Additionally, there is a focus on environmental education, with the aim of helping children become literate about their surroundings. Vinagerði is starting a three-year development project with the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
What's ahead for Vinagerði? In the operational plan, you'll find, among other things, the school's internal and external evaluations for the last year, an improvement plan, the preschool calendar, and much more.
We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in preschool activities. All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.
Vinagerði Preschool falls under North Center. North Center provides a wide range of services to the residents of Laugardalur and Háaleiti and is a comprehensive information source for municipal services. The Center provides welfare services, school services to preschool and primary schools, day care and recreational counseling, and various other services.
The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a contact person in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The contact person offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can contact the school contact person to request integrated services.
The contact person for Vinagerði is: Halla Jónsdóttir
