My strength and your strength

The goal of this short game is for students to realize their strengths and notice the strengths of other students in the class. The teacher can start the lesson by mentioning that we have different strengths and we are a diverse group and that is positive and good. No one is good at everything but everyone is good at something!

  • Each student gets two small notes, on one note they write a strength they think they possess. On the other note they just write their name.
  • The note with the strength goes in their pocket, but the teacher takes the note with the name. When the teacher has all the name notes, they mix them up and then distribute the notes randomly back to students. If someone gets their own name, the note is exchanged. When everyone has a note with a name other than their own, they should think about what the main strength of that individual is and then write on the back of the note the strength (Example: Good friend, brave, funny, good at soccer...).
  • When everyone has written on the name note, the teacher collects the notes back (just the name notes) and distributes them to students. Each person gets back the note with their name and now with a written strength on the back. Students now have two notes with their strengths, the one they wrote themselves at the beginning and the one another student wrote. It's fun for students to see if it's the same strength on both notes or if a classmate may have noticed a strength that the student hasn't realized they possess.
