Optional care registration for preschool

On optional care registration days, care is optional and preschool fees are waived for days the child is on holiday. If you need care for a child on these days you need to register and pay fees for those days. The general rule is that optional care registration days follow the City's primary school holidays around Easter, winter break and Christmas.

Registration periods

In October – coinciding with primary school winter break

In December – between Christmas and New Year's

In February – coinciding with primary school winter break

In March/April – during Holy Week / the week before Easter

How registration works

  • Register for each period separately.
  • Registration opens four weeks before the period starts and lasts two weeks.
  • Children can be registered for single days or all days.
  • Unregistered children are assumed to be on holiday.
  • Payment is required for registered days, whether the child attends or not.
  • Registration is binding and only valid for registered days.

Preschool fees on optional care days

Preschool fees are waived on optional care days.

As preschool fees are paid in advance, payment for optional care is added to the next month's bill. Fee waiver remains if a child is not registered.

  • Jón and Sigga, both 4, attend Kisuborg preschool. They are registered for 8-hour care. Regular preschool fee for Sigga and Jón is 100 krónur per month.

  • Sigga's parents work on optional care days and register her for all days.
  • Their reduction is reversed and added to November's bill. Jón's parents plan a holiday and don't register him. They keep their reduction and pay the regular fee in November.
  • November fee for Sigga: Regular fee (100 krónur) + Optional care (25 krónur). Total 125 krónur.
  • November fee for Jón: Regular fee. Total 100 krónur.
