Special housing aid

Special housing aid is a form of financial assistance designed to support families and individuals with rent payments. Only those eligible for housing benefits from the Housing and Construction Authority (HMS) may qualify for this special housing aid.

Am I entitled to special housing aid?

The entitlement to special housing aid is determined by financial status and social circumstances. In addition, an applicant must:

If you do not yet have accommodation but are actively searching you can still apply for special housing aid. This application remains valid for three months from its approval date. However, the payment of special housing aid will not commence until it's confirmed that you're eligible for housing benefits from HMS.

You can also receive special housing aid (exemption) for 15-17 year-old children if they're studying away from their registered address and consequently renting a residence or dormitory.

What amount will I receive?

The amount you can receive depends on your social circumstances, the amount of rent, and the combined income and assets of all household members over the age of 18. Housing benefits and special housing aid together can never exceed a total of 90,000 kr.
