Refugees who receive financial assistance can get a free swimming pass and a Culture Card.

Swim pass

Outdoor activities and movement contribute to mental, physical, and social health. Reykjavík's swimming pools combine all three. Refugees can get a free swimming pass that grants free access to public swimming pools in Reykjavík for six months from the issue date.

Culture Card

Reykjavík's Culture Pass is an annual pass that grants free access to Reykjavík Art Museum (Hafnarhús, Kjarvalsstaðir, and Ásmundarsafn) and Reykjavík City Museum (Árbæjarsafn, Settlement Exhibition, and Maritime Museum). The Pass is valid for all exhibitions and events organized by the museums. Those with a Culture Card also get a library card at Reykjavík City Library. The Pass also includes discounts at other museums, for instance, a 50% discount at the National Gallery of Iceland. Refugees can get a free pass.

Icelandic courses

You are entitled to Icelandic courses from the Directorate of Labor at no cost. To enroll in the course, you need a referral from Reykjavík City that at your local center sends to the Directorate of Labor.

Civic education

The website Landneminn, run by the Directorate of Labor, hosts educational material in civic education for adult immigrants in Iceland and has been translated into eight languages. There you can gain knowledge about important historical, social, economic, cultural, legal, and political conditions in Iceland in addition to information about the main rights and obligations in Icelandic society. The teaching material on the website is digital, but you can register for on-site courses.
