Are you a young person of foreign origin aged 13-16 living in Reykjavík? Do you want to join the Young Ambassadors project? We're looking for you.
Reykjavík City's Human Rights & Democracy Office received support from the Council of Europe for this project. It aims to increase inclusion and participation of young people of foreign origin in community discussions.
Young Ambassadors is a joint project between Reykjavík City and Wroclaw, Poland. Both cities are members of the Council of Europe's (Fjölmenningarborga), Intercultural Cities network.
We're seeking young people aged 13-16 of foreign origin who are interested in this topic and want to participate. Applicants must apply to participate. Young people will be selected from the pool of applicants to take part in the project. Participants will meet and work with other young people of foreign origin living in Reykjavík. They will learn about Human Rights and democracy, prejudice, and hate speech. They will also have opportunities to boost self-confidence, communication, and leadership skills.
The group will meet weekly with a project manager from Reykjavík City's Human Rights & Democracy Office to discuss various Human Rights issues. The young people will also receive education from Dale Carnegie Training. Meetings will last one to two hours, from mid-September to late November 2024.
In November, the group will travel to Wroclaw, Poland, at no cost, with two project managers from the Human Rights & Democracy Office. There, they will meet Polish young people participating in a similar project. They will get to know each other, discuss Human Rights, and exchange views on the topic.
If interested, send us an email with your name and ID number, and answer this question: Why do voices of young people of foreign origin matter?
