A group of ninth and tenth grade students from Klébergsskóli in Kjalarnes visited City Hall today. This is the first group in a pilot project running through the winter.
Reykjavík ninth grade primary school students can visit City Hall with their teachers. They learn about the City Council past and present, tour the building, have a light lunch, and meet city councilors for a Q&A session. Teachers should prepare students to make the most of the visit, such as preparing questions or deciding on topics to discuss with city councilors. The project aligns with Reykjavík's Democracy Policy. Its success will be evaluated after winter to consider future plans.
Could these be future city councilors?
Promoting knowledge and interest in democracy
The first group visited City Hall today, spending time with city councilors and the Mayor, touring the building, and discussing issues. Reykjavík City's Education Policy aims for children to grow, thrive, and enjoy a democratic society characterized by human rights and respect for diversity in daily life. The visits aim to increase students' understanding of democracy and spark interest in active community participation.
Spots are still available. Interested parties can learn more about the project and register groups for school visits to City Hall.
