Waste collection over Easter
The City expands waste collection services around major holidays to handle increased volume, and Easter is no exception. Reykjavík City's Waste Collection Department has planned ahead by scheduling extended shifts during the week leading up to Easter, with crews also working the Saturday before the holiday.
Waste collection will run all day on Holy Thursday, April 2. Waste collection staff will have the day off on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday. Service resumes Tuesday, April 7, and staff will work extended hours as necessary throughout the following week. Unstable weather could delay this schedule.
The Waste Collection Department reminds residents to keep their bins easily accessible. Poor access delays collection and may result in uncollected waste.
Recycling drop-off services during Easter
Paper and plastic containers will be emptied on Wednesday, April 1, and Saturday, April 4. Teams will service glass and metal containers throughout the week. Please note that adverse conditions can impact these pickups, as high winds prevent teams from safely emptying containers.
Residents can now find paper and plastic containers at all major recycling drop-offs, while glass and metal containers remain available at every recycling drop-off across the capital area. Visit the SORPA bs. website for a map of all recycling drop-off locations.
SORPA bs. recycling centers will remain open on Holy Thursday. Centers will be closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. These facilities will also be open on Saturday.
