What's in the map view?
The map view opened on November 4, 2022, showing current and future development areas in Reykjavík.
You can view by different construction stages and districts: apartments under construction, apartments in approved local plans, apartments in planning process, and apartments in development areas. The map displays information on over 26,000 apartments from the Housing Plan. To put this large development into context, there are currently around 58 thousand residences in Reykjavík.
- You can see development by district and stage. Clicking on an area shows information such as number of apartments, developer, estimated completion date, and project designer.
Explanatory text
Future areas | Informal ideas and estimated development areas. Formal planning has not begun. |
Development area | Development areas where discussions with stakeholders have started but formal planning process has not begun. Estimated development rights, but the area may be in preparatory stages, e.g., with a planning competition. |
Areas in planning process | Development areas in the planning process; planning description has been advertised or planning is ongoing leading to a formal proposal. |
Approved land-use plan | Confirmed land-use plan is in place but the lot is not ready for construction, as infrastructure development, such as street works, has not begun. Standby status may also be due to agreements. |
Buildable lots | Confirmed land-use plan is in place and street works are completed. Lot owner can begin construction. |
Apartments under construction | Apartments under construction at any given time on buildable lots. |
Completed projects | Apartments that have been "graduated" where construction is complete and they have been put into use. |
