Hitt Húsið
Center for young people
Cultural affairs
To create is to invent, experiment, grow, break rules, make mistakes and have fun. This definition fits well with the cultural activities that take place in Hitt Húsið. Activities that reflect youth culture in music, theater, visual arts, dance and other creative projects.
Icelandic Music Experiments
Since 1982, Icelandic Music Experiments has been one of the main platforms for young Icelandic bands and musicians ages 13-25 to share their music.
Hitt Húsið Youth Center hosts the Icelandic Music Experiments each spring, where 40 to 50 acts compete across four preliminary evenings for a spot in the finals at Harpa, broadcast on Rás 2 and streamed live on the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service (RÚV 2).
Unglist
Unglist, a youth art festival, has been an annual event in fall in Reykjavík since 1992.
The festival lasts for over a week each time with numerous participants and music lovers.
The locations of events at the festival vary from year to year.
Street Theater
The Street Theater (Götuleikhúsið) has become well known among the public, as it has been operating during summers since 1994. Since then, the theater has nurtured a large group of young people, many of whom now work as well-known artists in various fields.
Art groups
Young people have the opportunity to apply and bring ideas for creative projects, and selected groups or individuals then get the chance to work on their ideas for eight weeks over the summer.
Gallery Raf
Hitt Húsið has a gallery where young artists can set up various kinds of exhibitions. Hitt Húsið has good facilities and equipment for young musicians to hold concerts and promote their music.
