On September 17, 2019, Reykjavík City Council adopted a declaration on the Intercultural City of Reykjavík in line with the City's participation in the Intercultural Cities project.

Reykjavík is an intercultural city

We celebrate diversity, equality, communication and inclusion for all.

We are proud to be a city where many cultures meet.

We are proud of how far we have come in putting on the glasses of gender and LGBT+.

Now we will take advantage of this experience and, in the same way, put on the glasses of multiculturalism.

We encourage other municipalities and the Government to take part in this journey.

Reykjavík is an intercultural city

We want immigrants to be active participants in the community with access to everything Reykjavík has to offer and for them to know their rights.

We ensure that multicultural values are reflected in all Reykjavík policies as well as City services.

We are grateful for the contribution of immigrants in urban life.

We want to highlight this positive contribution of immigrants.

We realize that diversity is the foundation of positive development. When everyone has the opportunity to fully enjoy their talents and creativity, we all benefit.

Approved by the Reykjavík City Council on September 17, 2019.
