Teaching and educational assessment

Learning in school bands has two main aspects:

  • Active participation in the A, B, or C bands, based on the age and skill level of the student.
  • In addition to participating in band rehearsals, each student has the opportunity for instrument instruction for 40-60 minutes per week, depending on their age and skill level.

Instrument instruction may take place during or after school hours, depending on the circumstances. Planning class schedules during school hours is done in consultation with the principal, the relevant primary school teachers, and with the consent of guardians. Instrumental training largely relies on practicing at home. Therefore, it's essential that students have the facilities and support they need at home.

Attendance

Students are expected to attend all band rehearsals, play times, and other organized events by the school band. All absences should be reported in advance.
To achieve satisfactory results in instrumental studies, students must play their instrument every day.

Educational assessment

Educational assessments for school bands take place at least once a year according to the school operation plan.
This includes:

  • The annual exam for school bands or the elementary/intermediate music school exam, whichever is applicable.
  • An official statement and/or exam grade from teachers and directors regarding student participation.
