About Tónstofa Valgerðar

Tónstofan offers music education for students of all ages who, due to disabilities or illnesses, need special support. Tónstofan is the only music school in Iceland where these individuals are given priority. The progress and objectives of the teaching, as well as the methods used, are tailored to the needs, prerequisites, and wishes of each student.

Students at Tónstofan can pursue traditional music studies. They can also benefit from a diverse range of music teaching and training aimed at enhancing musical sensitivity and skills, improving well-being, and fulfilling their creative needs. This represents Tónstofan's uniqueness and significance. It upholds the principles of inclusion, equality, and the rights of disabled people to utilize and develop their talents and to actively participate in cultural life and the arts. The school operates in accordance with international declarations and agreements on human rights, domestic laws and regulations related to education and the rights of people with disabilities, national and municipal education policies, as well as the national curriculum for music schools and Tónstofan's own school curriculum.
