Þorrasel Day Care offers diverse activities for older adults living at home who need social support. It provides meals, rest areas, bathing assistance and health monitoring. Physical therapy is available with a doctor's referral. Pedicure is not available at Þorrasel.
Users are picked up in the morning and driven home in the afternoon. The service is available two to five weekdays per week.

How do I get a spot at Þorrasel?
To get a spot at Þorrasel:
- You must have legal residence in Reykjavík
- You must be assessed as needing day care
- You must be able to perform daily activities
- You must have a referral from a doctor, nurse, social worker or other professional
How do I apply for day care at Þorrasel?
You apply on My Pages. You can also schedule a visit to tour the facility and fill out an application on-site.
What happens next?
After applying, you'll have an interview with the Þorrasel director to discuss your needs. You'll then get a spot or be waitlisted based on availability.
Those offered a spot visit to review procedures, transportation plans, etc. New participants receive a dedicated staff contact for a smooth transition.
Waitlisted individuals get regular status updates by phone.
How much does Þorrasel cost?
The daily fee is 1,579 kr, paid by the service user. There's also a 2,000 kr monthly activities fee.
What if I can't attend Þorrasel?
Report absences before 8:30am at 411 9480. Please notify of extended absences, like for respite care or rehab, as early as possible. Users can hold their spot for up to eight weeks.
