About the Suzuki School of Music

The Suzuki School of Music in Reykjavík teaches music using the mother-tongue method of Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki, often called the Suzuki method. Teachers have completed specialized training in this method according to European Suzuki Association standards.

The main premise of the Suzuki method is that given the right stimulating environment from the start, children have greater potential for achievement and development in music and all learning.
Emphasis is placed on children starting music education early, between ages 3-7 when sensitivity and creativity are most active.

Initially, students and parents attend weekly private lessons with the instrument teacher and biweekly group lessons. As children get older, music theory, ear training, orchestra playing, chamber music, harmony and music history are added. Regular concerts help students learn to perform. The school offers basic, intermediate and advanced studies.
