Knowledge center for disabled children

The Kringlumýri recreation center is the knowledge center for disabled children and adolescents in the recreational program part of the Reykjavík Department of Education & Youth.

The knowledge center provides guidance and policy making for all work related to disabled children and adolescents and children with support in the after-school program part of the Department of Education & Youth. It also maintains and develops expertise and innovation in general and specialized recreational activities for disabled children and adolescents while implementing appropriate ideology and practices in all matters related to working with disabled children in leisure time. The knowledge center also provides education for staff at after-school programs and youth centers.

 

Staff

The knowledge center consists of a project manager at the recreational office for disability issues along with counseling developmental therapists.

  • The project manager leads and directs policy making in leisure activities for disabled children and adolescents.
  • Counseling developmental therapists along with the project manager oversee and allocate support to after-school programs and youth centers.

 

Specialized leisure activities

The Reykjavík Department of Education & Youth operates after-school programs for all children in grades 1-4, youth center activities for children and adolescents in grades 5-10, as well as offering specialized leisure activities for disabled children and adolescents in grades 5-10.
