Plans are being developed for a new residential area at Sóleyjarimi in Grafarvogur, continuing with architectural firm Esja's proposal for the area. This was approved at a Reykjavík City Environment & Planning Council meeting this week. The proposal is titled "Sóleyjatún, affordable and friendly residential area in an established neighborhood."

The selection committee noted the proposal presents a convincing overall vision for the area that works well with connections to green spaces and adjacent buildings. The scale of buildings and outdoor spaces fits the surroundings well.

"The housing types, community center and makerspace support resident connections.. Space is left for neighbors with a green border by the residential area and school. Good overall thinking for stormwater solutions, vegetation and biodiversity. Common areas are well-placed, with good solutions for parking, waste and connections. Interesting ideas for urban farming and shared use of open spaces with Rimaskóli," the committee also noted. The proposal extends beyond the site with good ideas for the school grounds, street layout and transportation.

Exhibit at Reykjavík City Library in Spöngin

The proposal is one of those on display at the Reykjavík City Library in Spöngin, where a well-attended open house was held yesterday. This is part of the housing initiative launched by Mayor Einar Þorsteinsson earlier this year. Initial proposals for residential lots in Grafarvogur are now available. The project aims for new development to fit well with the existing urban landscape and increase access to green spaces in the area.

All are welcome to visit the exhibit, open until October 7.
