Culture Night will take place on August 24, 2024. Preparations are well underway for a festive event for all guests.
On Culture Night, the city center becomes one large pedestrian street. The area will close to vehicle traffic from 7am until 1am the following day. This closure ensures safety for pedestrians and drivers on the busiest festival day of the year. Culture Night guests are encouraged to walk, bike, or use public transport to reach the festival area.
Those who need to drive can use parking lots at Borgartún and in Laugardalur. Free shuttles will transport people to and from the festival area from 7am to 12:30am. As required by law, illegal parking will result in fines. Vehicles blocking access for police, ambulances, and fire trucks will be towed to ensure access for these safety services in case of emergencies.

Strætó public transport
Regular fares apply on Strætó buses during the day, with increased frequency while the festival program is ongoing.
You can view bus stops and schedules for all routes on straeto.is. The route planner will be updated to show timetables and trips throughout the day.
Night bus fares apply from 1am, but monthly and annual pass holders can use their cards on night buses.
Free Strætó Shuttles
Strætó shuttles, provided by Reykjavík City, will run between Laugardalshöll Arena and Hallgrímskirkja from 7:30am to 12:30am. These shuttles are free of charge.
Electric scooters
People are strongly encouraged to use electric scooters, an eco-friendly mode of transport, to travel to and from the city center on Culture Night.
In cooperation with e-scooter companies, the maximum speed of e-scooters will be reduced in the city center during Culture Night. Users will only be able to start and end trips at designated parking areas in the city center.
Emptying
The Strætó bus network in the capital area will be interrupted at 10:30pm. All available buses will be directed to Sólfar (Sun Voyager) on Sæbraut. From Sólfar, buses will depart to all neighborhoods in the capital area from 11pm to 12:30am. These trips are free of charge.
A map of street closures is available on the Culture Night website, culturenight.is, or by calling Reykjavík City's information center from 8am to 11pm on Culture Night. Phone: 411-1111.
