The City of Reykjavík is looking for imaginative and enthusiastic individuals or groups to participate in the project Torg í biðstöðu (Standby Squares) 2024. This year the focus is on the blue areas in Reykjavík, such as lakes and rivers, and how to improve experiences and increase outdoor activities with them. Everyone should be able to enjoy these areas, regardless of ability, and it is therefore important to create good access and facilities.
The focus is on the sustainable development of the areas and user-friendly and good design that encourages outdoor activities and improves physical, mental and social public health.

Standby Squares has been running since 2011. The project's goal is to create a more pleasant area, to embrace the unexpected and to be a platform for radical experiments with the urban environment.
Last year, the theme was "plantings" and projects outside the city centre where there are opportunities to create small squares or recreation areas in the city's neighbourhoods were requested.
