Changes to the fees and tariff schedule for Reykjavík City parking spaces will come into effect at the end of the month. Today and tomorrow, work is underway to change almost 300 signs in the city, but the fee itself will not change until Sunday, October 1, whether payment is made through meters, apps or the web.

Overview of the changes

  • For zones P1 and P2, the charging period will be extended until 9pm, both on weekdays and Saturdays.
  • The maximum time in tariff zone 1 will be three hours.
  • In addition, fees will be introduced for tariff zones P1 and P2 between 10am and 9pm on Sundays.
  • Payment hours for tariff zone 3 will be 9am-6pm on weekdays.

Disabled parking permit holders can park free of charge in any parking space, whether it's reserved for disabled people or not, and the time limit in zone P1 doesn't apply to them.

Supporting service providers, guests, and residents

Parking fees in Reykjavík aim to fulfill the goals of the Reykjavík Municipal Plan and promote diverse parking use on municipal land by controlling parking demand, thus supporting service providers, guests, and residents.

The City Executive Council approved this proposal for changes to Reykjavík City parking fees in this summer and the planned changes were reported in a detailed news story on the matter in late June.
