Streets on Skólavörðuholt will close to traffic from 10pm to 1am on New Year's Eve. Several streets will close on New Year's Eve for the ÍR New Year's Eve Run.
Streets will close on Skólavörðuholt on New Year's Eve from 10pm to 1am. The goal is to designate a fireworks area and ensure people's safety. Secure bases for fireworks will be set up. The area will be marked with cones and tables. Safety staff will be on duty. Reykjavík City staff will handle street closures and cleanup after midnight.

Running on New Year's Eve for nearly half a century
The ÍR New Year's Eve Run takes place for the 47th time, causing street closures. The route remains the same as recent years. The start line is on the south lane of Sæbraut in front of Harpa. The finish line is in front of Harpa. The run starts at 12pm and timing ends at 1:30pm. Sæbraut will close from 10:30am to 1:30pm. The fun run starts 5-7 minutes after the 10 kilometer run, following the same route. Traffic will be restricted or streets closed as needed during the run.
