Safety

In the City of Reykjavík's Human Rights Policy, there is a section on safety.

The Action Plan for Human Rights states that the City's goal is to ensure the safety of its residents. This will be achieved by working on the Nordic Safe Cities project, which the City is a member of, as well as the agreement on safe entertainment venues.

Together Against Violence

In the spring of 2014, the City of Reykjavík agreed to undertake a campaign against domestic violence in partnership with the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police, The Women's Center, and the Primary Care of the Capital Area.

The partnership should ensure the safety of city residents at home, provide better services to victims and perpetrators, and improve the situation of children exposed to domestic violence.

Safe entertainment venues

On April 8, 2022, a new agreement on non-violent and safe entertainment venues was signed, but the project started in 2016.

Parties to the agreement include the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police, Reykjavík City, the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, the Emergency Response Line (Neyðarlínan), the Capital Region Fire Service, the Icelandic Travel Industry Association, and the Association of Reykjavík Entertainment Venues.

Nordic Safe Cities

Nordic Safe Cities is an alliance of cities working to increase safety in cities in the Nordic countries.
