About the preschool

Geislabaugur is open from 7:30am to 4:30pm

Geislabaugur Preschool opened in July 2004 in Grafarholt. Untouched nature is nearby, and the children benefit from it when they go for a walk. The grounds around the preschool are large and offer great opportunities for exercise. Part of the grounds have been fenced in to create a vegetable garden and play area for the youngest children. Geislabaugur Preschool has 36 employees and 104 children in 5 groups. The groups are called Stjarnan, Lindin, Lautin, Fjallið, and Sólin.

Philosophy

The guiding principles of Geislabaugur are joy, respect, creativity, and equality

Geisbaugur follows the philosophy of Reggio Emilia, which encourages children to use all their senses, their 100 languages, and their creative thinking. The basic ideas of Reggio Emilia are taken from sources such as Jean Piaget, who emphasizes the intellectual and moral development of the child, meaning that children construct their own knowledge through their perception and interaction with others. Learning about one's own environment is important for a child's discovery and for strengthening their self-awareness.

The Center for Geislabaugur

Geisbaugur Preschool falls under East Center. East Center provides a wide range of services to the residents of Árbær, Grafarholt, Grafarvogur, and Kjalarnes and is a comprehensive information source for municipal services. The Center provides welfare services, school services to preschool and primary schools, day care and recreational counseling, and various other services.

Child prosperity

The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a contact person in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The contact person offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can contact the school contact person to request integrated services.
