Moving to a nursing home is a significant change for individuals and their relatives. The focus is on positive adaptation and good relationships with residents and relatives.
Droplaugarstaðir's values are safety, activity, and well-being.
The home
Droplaugarstaðir has 80 general nursing wards. There's also a specialized MND ward. All rooms are single-occupancy with private bathrooms.
Each floor is divided into three home units with eight to ten rooms. They share a dining and living room.
The MND ward is on the first floor with physiotherapy, offices, dining hall, kitchen, laundry, and beauty services.
There's access to a fenced garden for socializing and outdoor activities. The garden features a greenhouse with Reykjavík's oldest grapevine, harvested each fall.
Nursing and medical care
Residents receive daily care from nurses, practical nurses, social assistants, and other staff. Nurses are on duty 24/7. They create nursing plans to meet residents' needs. Nurses work closely with the home's doctors.
Primary Care of the Capital Area provides all medical services under contract. Doctors have regular hours during the week and 24-hour on-call service.
MND ward
The first floor has specialized nursing wards for people with MND. These can be for short or long-term stays. Specialized nursing and medical care is provided in collaboration with the Landspítali Hospital MND team.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is provided based on individual needs. The goal is to maintain physical function and ability as long as possible.
Physiotherapists assess function and create treatment plans upon arrival. Treatment focuses on strength, balance, and gait training, along with pain management. Physiotherapists assess and provide necessary assistive devices.
The physiotherapy service is diverse and well-equipped.
Occupational therapy
Occupational therapy is provided based on individual needs. The goal of occupational therapy is to maintain mental, social, and physical function as long as possible. Individual and group therapy is offered, guided by each person's abilities, wishes, and interests. Activities take place in the occupational therapy workshop and resident wards.
In addition to the occupational therapy, varied social activities and events are offered in the hall.
Regular church services are held by Hallgrímskirkja priests.
