Counseling school

Sólborg is the preschool that has specialized in meeting the needs of children who are deaf or hearing impaired. The National Hearing and Speech Institute of Iceland introduces this counseling to parents when a child's hearing impairment is detected. 

Aim of the counseling

Our aim is to provide preschool staff with guidance on hearing impairment, including environmental considerations, educational emphasis, and social inclusion within early childhood education. Counseling is tailored to each individual's needs.

  • General advice is given on hearing impairment and the impacts of getting a hearing aid
  • Details on what the preschool should consider in their activities, with regards to learning environment, acoustics, communication, and the child's participation
  • Hearing impaired students and sign language
  • Guidance on CODA children

 

Lilja Þorsteinsdóttir serves as special education director.

 

Counseling services available:

  1. A counselor visits the child's preschool or provides phone counseling. Counseling is provided according to the price list, 25,000 kr., with an additional fee for municipal staff using their private cars.
  2. Counseling is held at Sólborg preschool. Counseling is provided per the fee schedule: 12,500 kr.
