Special school

Arnarskóli is a comprehensive primary school for children of primary school age with developmental deviation. Behavioral intervention is used in the children's learning and teaching. Comprehensive school means that the program is provided every weekday of the year. School, recreation, and summer recreation all take place in the same place with the same staff.

According to an agreement, Reykjavík City will pay a contribution to Arnarskóli for a maximum of eleven students. Priority is given to students with legal residence in Reykjavík who already go to Arnarskóli provided that the conditions of the Department of Education & Youth for the processing of applications to private special schools are met.

How to apply to Arnarskóli?

The application process is in two parts since Arnarskóli is outside the municipality. First, you must apply to the Department of Education & Youth for an assessment of the student's academic and recreational standing and then you must apply to Arnarskóli.

Guardians who intend to apply to Arnarskóli for their children must submit an application to the Department of Education & Youth by February 1 of each year and to the Arnarskóli by March 1 of each year.

Under the process, parents requesting school placement at Arnarskóli for their child may request that an assessment be made of the student's academic standing in accordance with the approved procedures before parents apply to Arnarskóli. Such an assessment must be requested by February 1 of each year.

At the same time, you must submit a request for school placement at a primary school in a municipality outside the student's legal residence.

If the Department of Education & Youth receives a request for an assessment of the student's academic standing for the planned application to Arnarskóli, the Department of Education & Youth will request additional documentation from guardians so that the special assessment team can evaluate the application in accordance with the approved procedure for the application process.
