About Árbær Music School

Árbær Music School has operated continuously since 1997. It has 190 students from the Árbær district and other areas of the city. Classes are usually during or right after school hours. They take place in most primary schools in the area, including Árbæjarskóli, Ingunnarskóli, Ártúnsskóli, Selásskóli and Norðlingaskóli.
The following instruments are taught according to the national music school curriculum:

  • piano
  • guitar
  • singing
  • bass
  • keyboard
  • flute
  • electric guitar

All instrumental and vocal studies are in private lessons. These are either half lessons of 30 minutes per week or full lessons of 25 minutes twice a week. Group lessons in piano and guitar are also offered for those who want to explore instrumental studies.

The school has a preschool department for 6-7 year old children. There are also ensemble bands at the school.

Music theory courses up to the advanced level are taught at the school, mostly through distance learning. These include music theory, ear training, music history and composition. All teachers at the school are trained music educators.

The principal is Stefán S. Stefánsson
