Services that matter
Annual report of the Department of Service & Innovation 2024
Central administration
The city's central administration is located in Reykjavík City Hall.
Its role is to manage the operations of Reykjavík's City Council and mayor, along with other core administrative tasks.
The central administration includes the Office of the Mayor and Chief Executive Officer, Office of the City Council, the Office Communications and Events, and the City Attorney.
Support for the digital journey
In recent years, collaboration between the central administration and the Department of Service & Innovation has grown steadily stronger.
Support for the digital journey has increased, and awareness of how important digital solutions are for improving services and simplifying daily work has grown stronger.
Projects that promote better oversight
- City Attorney project schedule: Migration to Microsoft Lists on SharePoint. Twelve lists in total were standardized, making classification and oversight of case status simpler and clearer.
- Digital City Council chamber: Technical infrastructure was reviewed and a challenge was developed on how to better use the chamber as the City's main meeting hall with modern digital infrastructure.
- Housing development map: The map was updated with better presentation and accessibility, providing clearer oversight of housing development status throughout the city.
Implementing Microsoft solutions
The digital transformation lead began a systematic review of web solution usage within the administration this year. Both the City Attorney and internal audit used specialized solutions from third parties and had to pay licensing fees.
This led to migration to Microsoft Lists, which met all service user requirements and resulted in greater consistency and better use of the City's shared infrastructure.
City Council meeting management system – Lóa
Preparing and managing City Council meetings has required extensive manual work until now.
A decision was made to implement a digital solution to manage voting and speaker lists at City Council meetings and to automate meeting processes and environment.
The system used at Alþingi was selected and work began to adapt it to the City Council's needs and connect it to the City's other systems. Implementation began this year and continues into 2025.
