Advent Festival - The lights on the Oslo Tree

The lights are tended on the Oslo tree on the East Side at 16.00 on the first Sunday in anticipation of each year at a solemn ceremony on the East Side. Singers and musicians perform beautiful Christmas songs together with a band. Santa Claus has the custom of stealing into town and singing and entertaining happy kids.

The first Oslo tree came in 1951.

More than half a century has passed since the Norwegians brought for the first time a weed tree as a gift to decorate Reykjavik.

For many years it has been customary to celebrate this gift of friendship with festive singing and fun surprises. Families gather in the East Side on this Sunday and take over the tree from the Ambassador of Norway.

Fetched in the Norwegian grove of Heathland, the tree recalls decades of friendship between Reykjavik and Oslo.

Decorations

Christmas turmoil The Paralysed and Disabled Sponsorship adorns the Christmas tree every year. It is the only ornament on the Oslo tree, as well as the Christmas lights.

This brings together Icelandic cultural heritage, design and much-needed affairs.
