Home-delivered food

It is important for all people to be able to have a hearty and nutritious meal every day. Food delivery service is available for individuals who cannot cook for themselves and aren't able to eat at one of Reykjavík City's Department of Welfare's community centers.

How does the service work?

Food delivery goes out three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

 

You must place your order by noon on Wednesday to receive food delivery the following week.

Can I have food delivered?

To qualify for food delivery, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a legal resident in Reykjavík
  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Live independently
  • Be assessed in need of home-delivered food under the Rules on Support Services

How do I apply for food delivery?

You can apply online for food delivery on My Pages.

You can also fill out an application in PDF format and send it to maturinnheim@reykjavik.is.

What happens if an application is denied?

If your application is denied, and you believe there are exceptional circumstances, you can request a review by the Welfare Council Appeal Board.

How much does home-delivered food cost?

Each meal costs 1,010 kr. The driving cost is 270 kr. In total, the meal costs 1,280 kr.

A payment slip for delivered food is issued monthly through online banking.
