  • Strong parent cooperation
  • Care and warmth
  • Participation in organized activities
  • Parents know who young people are with and where they are in the evenings and on weekends
  • Know their children's friends and the friends' parents
  • Set clear rules about things in children's daily lives. What is allowed and what is not, both at home and outside the home
  • Respect curfew times
  • Don't allow parties without parents present
  • Time spent with parents, such as:
    • Playing together
    • Watching movies
    • Cooking and/or baking together
    • Eating together

  • Having friends who use substances
  • Tobacco, alcohol and illegal drugs
  • Hanging around and being unsupervised
  • Too little nighttime sleep
  • Too much screen time
  • Children who are too young on social media
  • "New" types of substances, such as nicotine and caffeine products where teenagers and young people are the target audience
  • Pornography viewing
  • Positive parental attitudes toward young people's alcohol consumption
