Communications and Events Office

The Communications and Events Office develops policy for communications and information while providing coordinated and reliable information about Reykjavík City and its operations. The office also manages the City's major events, coordinates collaboration on city center matters, and leads projects focused on marketing Reykjavík as a tourist destination.

Purpose

  • Overview of information sharing for all City workplaces
  • Managing the Reykjavík/Reykjavík City brand – Shaping the image, voice, visual identity, and messaging across external and internal communications
  • Editorial oversight of web and social media channels operated in the City's name
  • Producing a broad range of promotional and informational materials about Reykjavík City's operations and initiatives
  • Public relations: Overseeing and coordinating all media communications across City administration and responding to media inquiries
  • Collaboration and communication with residents, government agencies, institutions, organizations, individuals, and businesses domestically and abroad
  • Defining, coordinating, and managing crisis communications
  • Planning and managing Reykjavík City's signature events, including Culture Night, Winter Lights Festival, and Iceland's National Day
  • Supporting other event organizers on municipal land and assisting with film productions taking place on municipal land
  • Partnership with city center operators and issues affecting the center of Reykjavík
  • Managing and overseeing external projects that promote Reykjavík as a travel destination
  • Providing professional consultation to managers and staff on matters that fall within the office's areas of responsibility
