City Hall school visits

In line with Reykjavík's Democracy Policy, 9th grade students in Reykjavík primary schools will be offered City Hall visits during the 2024-2025 school year. This pilot project will be evaluated for potential continuation.

Students and teachers will visit City Hall for lessons on past and present city councils, a tour, a light lunch, and Q&A with city councilors. Teachers should prepare students to make the most of the visit, such as preparing questions or deciding on topics to discuss with city councilors.

Arrangement

Each visit accommodates 25 students, with 16 total visits on Thursdays. We seek good cooperation with teachers to fill available seats each time. Groups should be close to 25 students. For groups under 20, we'll try to combine them. In such cases, email lydraedi@reykjavik.is

Registration

Each group is responsible for arriving at City Hall by 10am. Students will use the city council chamber during the visit, which ends around 1:30pm.

Teachers/group supervisors will be contacted before the visit to discuss details.
