Driving services for disabled children
Guardians of disabled children may apply for driving services, e.g. for recreation, medical visits, physical therapy, or to break social isolation. Children under the age of 6 should always be accompanied by an adult. Pant is responsible for driving services for disabled children.
Which children are eligible for driving services?
To be eligible for the service, a child must have legal residence in Reykjavík and meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Be of reduced mobility and use a wheelchair.
- Be unable to use public transport due to a disability.
- Be blind.
Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult at all times and if they need a car seat the guardian is responsible for providing one.
How do I apply for the service?
You can apply for driving services for a child in your care online on My Pages.
You can also go to a center in your district to fill out an application.
What happens next?
The application is assessed based on the conditions and the child's ability to use other travel options. A child may be provided with driving services for a part of the year if needed.
You will be notified in writing whether the application is accepted or rejected. The services are generally approved for a period of 2 years.
If an application is denied and you believe there are factual grounds for an exemption from these rules, you may file a request for an appeal with the Welfare Council Appeal Board.
