Carbon sequestration

Emissions:

34,522 metric tons of CO2-equivalent

Responsible party:

Reykjavík City

Description:

Work is underway to map potential actions to reduce emissions from land use. Subsequently, a more detailed plan is being developed to reduce these emissions.

In the current Climate Action Policy (CAP), reductions due to changes in land use are estimated at 34,522 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent. Changes to the method for assessing carbon sequestration within urban areas will reduce estimated emissions from land use.

The biggest opportunities here are carbon sequestration through afforestation and reclamation of wetland, which is part of the current Climate Policy and is also a project within Reykjavík City's Green Deal.
